Hello Prospective NCFHA Player -
Thank you for your interest in the Northern California Field Hockey Association (NCFHA). To become a member, please fill out the registration form. Upon submission, you will be added to our mailing list and roster as a prospective player/member of the NCFHA for our Fall 2009 season which begins mid-August and also makes you eligible for play in our Spring and Summer mini-leagues and practices.
To learn more about the NCFHA, how it works, and playing opportunities, read below.
"THE BASICS" OF HOW THE NCFHA LEAGUE WORKS:
NCFHA is a club level field hockey league comprised of 200+ women. Our players' experience levels range from complete beginners to college and ex-national team players. Playing opportunities differ seasonally. In the Spring and Summer the league offers open practices whereas in the Fall the league offers our official playing season of full field games and practices as well.
WEDNESDAY PICK UP HOCKEY
The league has open pick up sessions on Wednesday evenings on the Stanford turf. Scrimmages are a great way to improve your game and meet other players in the league. You can attend the sessions for a small fee and you are required to have a USA Field Hockey membership. For information about practice sessions check the NCFHA website "Pick Up Hockey" page: or contact: Lauren Dicioccio laurendicioccio@yahoo.com
FALL FIELD HOCKEY SEASON
The Fall season is more formal and runs from mid-August to early-December. The Fall season is made up of 9 teams that participate in full field games almost every Sunday at Stanford University and a couple of dates are scheduled at UC Berkeley Maxwell Field (also astroturf). On most Sundays, each team usually plays two games.
New players are placed on one of our 9 teams after attending our New Player Day which is generally in mid-August. At New Player Day, you get an opportunity to meet other new players, have fun and play a little hockey. New Player Day also helps the captains and board members assess your skill level and place you on a team that is a good fit, as the goal of our league is to have balanced teams and even matches that are fun! Once you submit your New Player registration form you will automatically be put on our mailing list for New Player Day and receive updates of the details as it draws closer.

CLARIFICATION OF SETTER STATUS-
Any member of NCFHA who wishes to take a year or more off from playingbut
who still wants to receive "The Shorts" newsletter and
have the option of returning to her team without reentering the
league as a new player is called a setter. We have clarified the
requirements of this category of membership in order to tighten
up our database and streamline the maintenance of our membership
roster. Please read this explanation if you are now or plan to be
a setter. This will serve as the only official announcement:
The NCFHA setter policy states:
Each year that a player wants to register for setter status she
must pay a $5.00 administrative fee and notify her team Captain
of her intentions in writing. She can send an e-mail or a hard copy
note. A member who has fulfilled both requirements (the payment
and stating their indication in writing) may then return to the
same team at the beginning of the season in which she wishes to
resume as an active player. If a player does not submit a written
request and pay the setter fee, then she will be taken off of the
official roster and must reenter the league as a new player.
